A Mother’s Search for Eco-Friendly Children’s Books

Tiana Krahn started stocking her daughter’s first library when she was six months pregnant. She sought out books with healthy messages that were also produced in an environmentally friendly way. Being acquainted with the disturbing fact that the U.S. book industry emits over 12.4 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and approximately 3 billion trees are cut down each year just to produce paper, She found it surprising so few Children’s books were eco-conscious.

Krahn decided to ‘be the change’. So was born Honeymoon Press, named after her daughter. Honeymoon Press uses 100% recycled post-consumer-waste paper, printed chlorine-free with vegetable-based inks and manufactured in North America. Krahn released her first book, LOVE in December 2009. LOVE describes the myriad of ways we experience love, shows how we are all interconnected, and celebrates the importance of having love in our lives. Her second book, PEACE  was released at the same time. PEACE helps children explore the meaning of harmony for different kinds of people, teaching children how to say the word in multiple languages. Honeymoon Press is a children’s publisher dedicated to making ecologically sound choices
Both available at Cora Carolina
